Department Profile
Department of Botany was established in the year 2008 at Govt. Degree College for Men, Wanaparthy. Since 2015-2016 academic year it came under the control of Palamuru University, the Department offers M.Sc. Botany course with intake students is forty (40) for every academic year. Students are admitted through OU-CPGET (Osmania University Common Post Graduate Entrance Test) entrance test. The Department has excellent infrastructure facilities and expert faculty members in different fields of Plant Sciences. The Department offers M.Sc. Botany course with the following Specialization: i.e Biodiversity of Angiosperms and Pharmacognosy of Medicinal Plants.
The department is committed to the development of academic excellence in teaching. The department is highly motivated and excited to share both their knowledge and passion in the field of Botany. The Department is providing Departmental library facility with an 80 volumes of reference books to support the needy students. The department is organizing awareness programmers, science exhibitions, research and various social service activities.
The Department updates the curriculum from time to time and has introduced Choice Based Credit System in the university since 2016. The department would also like to expand in future, the development of technology and industrial interaction under its auspices. The main aim of the Department is the academic, educational and financial progress in Students by providing proper Education, Guidance and Skills.
The main thrust of the Department however is in the areas like Taxonomy of Angiosperm, Morphology, Anatomy, Wood analysis, Phytogeography, Pharmacognosy, Phytochemistry, Ethnobotany, Ecology, Phycology, Mycology, Bryology, Pteridology, physiology, cell Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Horticulture and conservation of Biodiversity.
The department motivates the students towards the establishment of self employment schemes such as tissue culture and horticulture centres. The Department of Botany is committed to expand and absorb the wide diversity of scientific disciplines that have come to be associated with the study of plants. The Department has 04 faculty members and 80 students.

Dr. KHAJAMOINUDDIN MOHAMMAD M.Sc, Ph.D– Phycology, Mycology and Microbiology, Cell biology, Genetics and biostatistics and Pharmacognasy.
Dr. A. BALEESHWAR REDDY, M.Sc, Ph.D– Angiosperms systematics , Plant anatomy and Palynology, Cultivation and post-harvest technology of medicinal plants and Horticulture and plant breeding.
Dr.S. Niranjan, M.Sc, Ph.D– Bryophyta and Pteridophyte, Gymnosperms and embryology of angiosperms, environmental pollution and protection, and Ecology and phytogeography.
YUVARAJ M.Sc (SET QUALIFIED) – Plant Biochemistry, Plant physiology, Biodiversity of Angiosperms, Taxonomy of angiosperms and Ethnobotany.
